Kanye West Drops "FACTS"

Kanye West Drops "FACTS"

Last year, Kanye West dropped "Only One" on New Year's Eve in the closing hours of 2014. This year, he's struck again with another new song to close out 2015. It's called "FACTS". Listen to it here.

West has shared very few of his own songs in 2015. Prior to "FACTS", he had officially released just "All Day" and "FourFiveSeconds", a collaboration with Rihanna and Paul McCartney. He also debuted "Wolves" at a fashion show. Most recently, he posted a new version of 2008's "Say You Will" and a reinterpretation of the Weeknd's "Tell Your Friends" to his SoundCloud. There is no word on when West will release his forthcoming album SWISH.

LCD Soundsystem and Guns N' Roses to Reunite at Coachella

LCD Soundsystem and Guns N' Roses to Reunite at Coachella

Both LCD Soundsystem and a version of Guns N' Roses featuring Axl Rose and Slash will reunite at Coachella this year, the New York Times reports. An unnamed source with direct knowledge of the California festival's lineup has confirmed to the Times that both bands will play on April 15-17 and 22-24 in Indio.

Rumors of LCD Soundsystem reuniting surfaced earlier this year, as reported in October by Consequence of Sound. At that time, DFA co-founder Jonathan Galkin denied the rumors in an email to Pitchfork, but speculation resumed when LCD Soundsystem emerged on Christmas Eve with a new single, "Christmas Will Break Your Heart". In July 2010, LCD Soundsystem frontman James Murphy explained why he was choosing to end the group at that time, hinting at both the final show at Madison Square Garden and that he might reunite the band five years later:

It's not like some big, dramatic ending-- we've talked about if in five years we'd want to play again we'd do it. It's all just gotten bigger than I planned or wanted. Not that I'm against it but I don't want to get bigger. What's the goal now-- get fucking huge? I don't want to be a famous person. It's fucking great where we are. I get on an airplane and nobody has any idea who I am. I just want to do other stuff. And since we know we're not gonna do another record I feel freer to do the biggest shit I possibly can. Like, 'Fuck it, we should play Madison Square Garden.'

He continued:

If I thought there was another record, I'd be very uncomfortable and anxious about it and what it was going to do to my life. Putting an end to it frees me up to have fun; it's like knowing your mortality. As a kid that always wanted to make music, I couldn't have dreamed of a better place to be than where I'm at right now. I didn't even know this place existed-- to play with your friends and be really satisfied and happy. It's not so bad.

As for Guns N' Roses, though they never officially broke up, Axl Rose has been the band's only original member since 1997, when McKagan departed. This version of the band has toured on-and-off since the early aughts, but their official output has been slim. In 2008, the band released the long-gestating Chinese Democracy

In the interim, Slash, McKagan, and drummer Matt Sorum (who replaced Adler in Guns N' Roses in 1990) formed Velvet Revolver, which was fronted by late Stone Temple Pilots singer Scott Weiland.

In recent years, there hasn't been any love lost between Axl and the original members. "Slash either should not have been in Guns to begin with or should have left after Lies," Axl said in 2009. "In a nutshell, personally I consider him a cancer and better removed, avoided—and the less anyone heard of him or his supporters, the better."

But this year, Axl and Slash reconciled. "It was probably way overdue, you know," Slash said. "But it’s, you know, it’s very cool at this point."

David Lowery Files $150 Million Lawsuit Against Spotify

David Lowery Files $150 Million Lawsuit Against Spotify

Artist rights advocate and Camper Van Beethoven frontman David Lowery has brought a massive $150 million class action lawsuit against Spotify, as Billboard reports. The suit claims that the music streaming service intentionally distributed copyrighted material without securing the necessary mechanical licenses. (A mechanical license allows a party to reproduce copyrighted material.)

The new lawsuit was filed in California on December 28. The suit claims that Spotify distributed copyrighted material to over 75 million users without identifying the copyright holders, nor did they signal any intent to obtain licenses.

The suit claims that songs such as "Almond Grove", "Get On Down the Road", "King of Bakersfield", and "Tonight I Cross the Border" were illegally distributed, and that statutory penalties allow for up to $150,000 for each instance of willful infringement.

Lowery is named as the class representative for the lawsuit, which also asks the court to make Spotify pay for the cost of a third party auditor to determine what works were illegally distributed, and to remove all disputed works from its catalog until obtaining the proper license.

Spotify is also embroiled in settlement negotiations with the National Music Publishers Association, over claims it allowed users to access improperly licensed material.

previous study conducted by Lowery, who also fronts Cracker, prompted the National Music Publishers Association to file take-down notices against 50 lyric websites in 2013.

The Specials Drummer John Bradbury Has Died

The Specials Drummer John Bradbury Has Died

Photo via the Specials' Twitter

John Bradbury, the drummer in pioneering 2 Tone group The Specials, has died. He was 62. The band made the announcement this morning via Twitter

Bradbury joined the group in 1979, when he replaced original drummer Silverton Hutchinson. For the next two years, the Specials took their blend of reggae and ska to the UK charts, with singles including "Too Much Too Young" and Dandy Livingstone cover "A Message to You, Rudy", and a pair of albums on 2 Tone, the label of chief songwriter Jerry Dammers.

After the success of seminal hit "Ghost Town", three core members left to form Fun Boy Three, while Bradbury and Dammers resumed operations as the Special AKA. In 1984, they released their final album, In the Studio, which featured another Top 10 UK single, "(Free) Nelson Mandela". Throughout that period, he also played in his own soul group, JB’s Allstars.

Bradbury joined the reformed Specials in 2008, in a role he held until his death. In a statement quoted by The Guardian, a band spokesperson said, "Brad’s drumming was the powerhouse behind the Specials, and it was seen as a key part to the 2 Tone sound. ... His contribution to the world of music can not be understated and he will much missed by family, friends and fans alike."

How To Diffuse ANY Disagreement In ANY Negotiation

Negotiation is the art of letting other people have your way

I’ve been investing a lot of my time into sales training books and programs these days.  My favorite sales coach is Grant Cardone, aka Uncle G.  I’ve listened to all of his books via Audible.com and I love the content on there.

One of the key things I learned from him is to always agree with the other party in negotiations.

You’re probably thinking,

Then how do you win in the negotiation if you agree with the other party?

Here’s the key.  Your agreement is just you acknowledging the other party’s statement or position.  For example:  if a buyer says “that dress is too expensive”, you say “I agree” which means you agree that the buyer thinks the dress is too expensive but the buyer never asked for your opinion.  You might think it’s cheap, but you agreeing to the buyer’s statement helps the buyer feel that you are acknowledging their opinion.

Or you may also think the dress is expensive and agree that you think it’s expensive as well.  Consumers buy expensive things all the time.  Companies wouldn’t price their products that way if no one was gonna buy them.

Motörhead's Lemmy Has Died

Motörhead's Lemmy Has Died

Photo via Facebook

Ian Fraser Kilmister, better known to the world as Motörhead frontman Lemmy, has died. He was 70. The news was first reported by rock journalist Eddie Trunk and later confirmed by TMZ, who said he passed away on Monday afternoon.

In 1972, Kilmister joined the psychedelic rock outfit Hawkwind, contributing bass and vocals. After being kicked out of Hawkwind in 1975, he formed Motörhead. In 1977, Motörhead released their self-titled debut. Over the span of 40 years and 22 studio LPs, the group emerged as one of the biggest hard rock bands in history. Their last album, Bad Magic, was released this year.

In the four decades since their inception, Motörhead experienced numerous lineup changes. As the founder and sole constant member of the group, Lemmy represented its anchor. Outside of the arena, he appeared on numerous television programs and films ("The Drew Carey Show", Hardware, and Airheads, to name a few) and lent voice talents to the video game Brütal Legend. He was also slated to appear in Björn Tagemose's forthcoming film Gutterdämmerung

Blood Orange's Dev Hynes recently played a pair of benefit shows at Harlem's Apollo Theater. Father John Misty Covers John Lennon's "God"

Father John Misty (aka Josh Tillman) made an appearance at the 4th Annual Merry Minstrel Musical Circus in Los Angeles the other night. At the show, he did a cover of John Lennon's "God", but updated some of lyrics to have more contemporary references. In his version, Tillman claims he doesn't believe in President Barack Obama, Facebook, Star Wars, and more. Watch the whole performance below, via Consequence of Sound.

Jonathan Wilson, who is one of the event's organizers, joined Tillman for the cover. He also co-produced this year's Father John Misty album, I Love You, Honeybear, with Tillman.

LCD Soundsystem Share New Song "Christmas Will Break Your Heart"

LCD Soundsystem Share New Song "Christmas Will Break Your Heart"

Front page photo by Alexander Stein

LCD Soundsystem broke up back in 2011 and have since squashed every rumor imaginable that the band would ever get back together. Today, they've shared a new song for Christmas. It's called "Christmas Will Break Your Heart". According to a note on the band's Twitter, James Murphy had been singing this "depressing Christmas song" to himself for the past eight years, but finally got around to recording it this year. Listen to the song and read the full note below. (It can also be purchased here.)

so, there’s been this depressing christmas song i’d been singing to myself for the past 8 years, and every year i wouldn’t remember that i wanted to make it until december, which is just too late to actually record and release a christmas song... but this year, al doyle had a short break between hot chip tours where he could be in nyc, and pat and nancy were home, and tyler agreed to fly out from berlin for a few days, so we all recorded this together, reserved a pressing plant slot, and our friend bob weston was available to master it quickly—so that means, less than 2 weeks after we recorded it, there is actually a christmas 7", which feels like something that could only have happened a very, very long time ago.

anyway, for the holidays we give you the previous, very long run-on sentence, and this song: “christmas will break your heart”, which is another one of those songs which had about 75 lines of lyrics, though we’ve knocked down to 8 to keep the suicide rate in check.

have fun!
