Uber and Ride-Booking Services
Singapore American School has a number of measures in place to ensure the security of our campus for all students, teachers, and community members. One of our most important security precautions is the management of vehicle access to campus. Private vehicles seeking to enter campus must either have an SAS decal on the windscreen or the visitor must have an appointment which has been confirmed in advance with the Security Office.
In recent months we have seen a rapid increase in the number of private cars without either decal or appointment seeking to enter at the main gate. The drivers may sometimes identify themselves as part of Uber or other ride-booking services.
Uber and other ride-booking services will no longer be allowed entry onto campus. However, commercially licensed taxis (including those booked through Uber or other ride-booking services) will continue their current level of access.
If you are arriving in an Uber vehicle or other private vehicle without an SAS decal, or have arranged pick-up by such a service, please direct the driver to the following locations:
- For Central Administration, middle school, and high school access: drivers should be directed to HDB Block 426-A, from which an SAS pedestrian gate is just steps away.
- For elementary school access: drivers may stop along the side roads off Woodgrove Avenue near the pedestrian route into school. It is safest and most considerate to direct drivers to Ashwood Grove and Beechwood Grove, as they have ample space to park and are easy-to-exit loops.
In all cases, please encourage drivers to be considerate to our HDB or Woodgrove neighbors and turn off motors while waiting. During school start and end times (7:30 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.) these areas can become very crowded and extra care should be exercised. Singapore traffic regulations do not allow any parking, waiting, drop-off, pick-up, or overtaking around Zebra crossing areas demarcated by the single white zigzag lines.
We apologize for any inconvenience as a result, but we believe this is essential to assuring the safety of our community.--
